Alert summary
WEATHER INFORMATION STATEMENT #4 ON TROPICAL STORM GONZALO FOR BARBADOS.
Effective
09:40:33 2020-07-22
Expires
11:30:00 2020-07-22
Description
The Barbados Meteorological Services is closely monitoring the progress of recently upgraded tropical depression #7 to Tropical Storm Gonzalo, located near 9.9N 43.1W at 850AM. This is about 1830 km or 1135 miles to the east of Barbados.
This system is moving towards the west north-west at 12 mph or 19 km/h. A generally westward motion at a faster forward speed is expected during the next few days.
Convection around the core has become more asymmetric this morning. Despite this, the system has become better defined within the past few hours and this is evident by the improvement in the banding to the north and west of the system.
At the moment environmental conditions are not conducive for rapid intensification of the system. However, as the system tracks westward across the Central Atlantic some additional strengthening is still possible and a tropical storm watch maybe issued for Barbados from 11pm Wednesday 22nd July, 2020 or sooner if conditions warrant.
****Reminders*****
The BMS wishes to remind all residents and visitors to first verify all information with BMS official sources such as the BMS website, or social pages before sharing/spreading this bulletin to others. Links to these sources can be found in this document.
The BMS will continue to monitor the progress of this system. The next update will be at 1100AM Wednesday 22nd of July 2020 or sooner if conditions warrant.
