Description
A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.

Due to the effects of a trough system, maximum rainfall accumulations of 15.0 to 40.0 mm from heavy to intense showers are anticipated across the island throughout the day.
This activity could generate flooding across low-lying areas of Barbados. Therefore, the Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a Flash-Flood Watch. These conditions are predicted to peak during the morning session with some improvement into this evening.
Possible Impacts
-There is the medium/high possibility of significant/severe flooding which will/may result in:
Soil erosion on bared or scarred land surfaces.
Water settlements on roads and fields which may lead to commuting delays and possible isolated diversions.
Increases in water levels of existing water bodies (e.g ponds etc.).
Marginally invasive excess water on roads, fields, storm drains/water canals and on property.
What you should do
-The public should follow recommendations from the department of emergency management.
The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates.
This Flood/Flash Flood Watch or Warning was issued at 9:50am Friday 19th April 2024 and will be updated/terminated at Noon Friday 19th April 2024 or sooner if conditions warrant.
