Description
This Flash Flood Watch was issued at 1230PM 27th March, 2024 and will be terminated at 600PM 27th March, 2024 or sooner if conditions warrant.
A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.

Maximum Rainfall Accumulations of 20.0 to 50.0 mm in light to heavy showers are expected across some central, eastern and northeastern districts of Barbados, due to localized activity.
Excessive rainfall today, Wednesday 27th March, 2024 could generate flooding across low-lying areas in the watch area. Therefore, the Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a Flash Flood Watch. These conditions are predicted to continue throughout the afternoon with an improvement by tonight.
Possible Impacts
-There is a medium possibility of significant flooding which may result in runoff from higher elevations. Soil erosion on exposed or scarred land surfaces. Water settlements on roads and fields at the foot of hills and coastal roads. Adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies (ponds etc.). Residents and visitors should also be aware that this alert level could elevate to red.

-The public should follow recommendations from the Department of Emergency Management.
The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates.
