WEATHER INFORMATION STATEMENT FOR BARBADOS
Effective
15:33:46 2020-11-09
Expires
18:16:00 2020-11-09
Description
Over the Past Weekend:
Some sections of Barbados recorded nearly 1 -2 inches (50mm) of rainfall on Sunday 8th November. This resulted in flooding across particular sections of the island which triggered a flood warning during the period. The unsettled weather was associated with a chain of synoptic events, that being troughs and surface to low-level convergence. These maintained mostly cloudy to overcast skies with showers and light rain, mainly on Sunday afternoon and into Sunday night.
Current Situation and Outlook:
Surface to mid-level instability remains across the island today Monday 9th November 2020 and is expected to remain across the island tomorrow Tuesday 10th of November. This will result in partly cloudy conditions with the occasional showers. A brief break is expected on Wednesday 11th of November as atmospheric stability returns to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. During this time some cloudiness will persist, however shower activity is expected to be light and infrequent. The Barbados Meteorological Services is forecasting occasional moderate to heavy showers to affect Barbados, due to a generally unstable atmospheric pattern on Thursday 12th of November into the Friday 13th of November.
What does this all mean for you?
Due to the already saturated/moist nature of the soils across the island, flooding will be easily triggered across sections of the island.
What should you do?
Plan your outdoor activities, such as repairs to leaking roofs, construction, and road maintenance ( just to name a few ) in advance of the wet period. Ensure drains are not clogged and gutters are kept clear and free of debris.
